Resilient Cities

What better way to learn from New York’s history and from local water projects than seeing it with your own eyes? Walking the streets of Manhattan together, guided by an app, visitors can learn about the water works of New York, but also about the history of the city related to water and community engagement within projects. The theme is together we walk; we walk with different organizations (Arcadis, UNhabitat, Dutch ministry and several other organizations), different nationalities and different backgrounds but all to a sustainable future.

By showcasing the coastal resilience projects and history of Manhattan, visitors can learn and talk about these topics. But most importantly they can apply these lessons learned in their own countries and situations. By learning from one another, we can protect and secure water resources for future generations. Doing this by using the knowledge of the current generation, but the technology of the future generation, since this walk is accessible through an app.

The app not only provides the water engineering highlights in Manhattan, but also helps with navigation along the route. Every point of interest will be highlighted and provides visitors with extra information on the water structure, history or community engagement. We encourage people to do this walk together with new found peers and/or colleagues, to discuss the lessons learned and think of solutions that can also fit for other environments.

The Together We Walk App will be available to download starting March 21, 2023. The App will continue to exist after the New York Water Week, so feel free to walk with us whenever!
