Challenges in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) include unsafe drinking water, lack of food and rural poverty.  This event brings together stakeholders from the private sector, NGO sector and Academia to share experiences with self-supply in Asia, and examples on how “Supporting self-supply” is helping to reach SDG 6.1 in SSA and at the same time increase food security and reduce poverty.

The SMART Centre Group is co-hosting a virtual, official side event during the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York. This event informs about the huge impact of self-supply in Asia and shares experience how supported self-supply can reach SDG6.1 and increases food security in rural Africa at a 1 time grant of $25 per person.

Presenters include: John Cherry (The Groundwater Project), Colin Andrews (Tiyeni), Martin Fischer (Kickstart), Henk Holtslag (SMART Centre Group) and Matthias Saladin (RWSN Theme Leader Self-supply).
