NK Tegelwippen takes place from 21-03-2023 till 31-10-2023
A lot of gardens in The Netherlands are paved with tiles. People think this way their garden is easy to maintain, but in fact all these tiles are the source of water logging, heat stress and a lack of biodiversity.
That’s why we are organizing the Dutch Championship of Tile Flipping (in Dutch: NK Tegelwippen). A fun competition between cities: who flips the most tiles and replaces them with plants, trees, grass and the like? Everybody in the country can participate. Just flip some tiles in your garden, plant some greenery in return and submit a picture and the amount of tiles via our website.
Soccer is big in The Netherlands and many cities have their own club and a (deep rooted) rivalry with neighboring cities. We are using this rivalry in a playful way, for a good cause: a greener, more resilient country for all of us.
The campaign has been a great success, together we’ve flipped over 4 million tiles in the past two years and Dutch media (and even international media) have been following the competition closely, reporting about it on the national news.
The competition is held from the first day of spring, the 21st of March, and lasts until the end of October. The ‘NK Tegelwippen’ is organized by creative agency Frank Lee and supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
Together we make our country greener and more resilient. As we say: “A day not flipped, is a day not lived”. So join us, and flip some tiles wherever you can!
